W – Wow: WAT! 25 Challenge Participation Update

Welcome to Week 2 of our Walk Across Texas! 25th Year Anniversary Challenge! If you are just now joining us, and its only week one for you, that’s okay! This is an open invitation celebration! We will have folks joining us for the next few weeks. Encourage your friends to join the fun! We will be sending newsletters for several weeks to keep everyone active and involved.

Well, we are moving on up! Right now, we have 498 teams with 2,539 participants in 81 counties in the WAT! Adult program, and 19 teams with 825 participants in 9 counties in the WAT! Youth program. Just got to say it...you are part of an impressive group! What a cool thing to be in this bunch of a group of Texans (and beyond.... spotted a couple of New Yorkers in the mix) working toward healthy habits and having fun!

Shout out to our Mini Challenge #1 winners, who won our first round of random drawings, just for signing up for the WAT! Adult program:

A - Action: Mini Challenge #2

For our newcomers, our second mini challenge is going to recognize participation as well! In case you missed the first mini challenge, all new participants will be entered into the raffle. Didn’t win our last mini challenge? You’ll still be entered into this one too!

WAT! Adult – Mini Challenge #2: Our second mini-challenge will recognize those who have registered to participate in the WAT! 25 Challenge. Next week, we will announce 10 randomly selected winners of a $10 dollar gift card to HEB, Kroger, or Amazon. To be eligible for the drawing, participants must register to join the WAT! 25 Challenge – WAT! Adult program by Monday, September 27th by 11:59 PM to be entered.

WAT! Youth – September Mini Challenge: Our WAT! Youth program “runs” a bit different. We will have a monthly recognition called the Texas Youth on the Move awards. To enter for the month of September, WAT! Youth teams must register and log mileage. Prizes will be awarded in three categories: Schools, Youth Organizations and Small Group (20 youth or less). Team captains will receive gift cards to use in support of their youth program through a random drawing held monthly. The first winners will be recognized in the Wednesday, October 6th newsletter. Teams must register to join the WAT! 25 Challenge – WAT! Youth program, and log mileage, by Thursday, September 30th by 11:59 PM to be entered.

L – Learn: Tips for Starting Physical Activity

We are so glad that you have joined our WAT! 25 Challenge and we want you to get off to a great start! Maybe you’re wondering how much physical activity you need to do, or if activities other than walking count toward your efforts. All intentional physical activity counts, and you might be surprised how much activity you’re able to add in throughout the day with a little team spirit and support to keep you going. Learn more about How Much Physical Activity Adults Need, and how to go about Adding Physical Activity to Your Life. Also, look at our Activity Equivalents to see how to calculate your mileage for activities other than walking.

K – Kicking Off: Let’s Hit the Trail, Road, Path, Driveway...Whatever It May Be!

Most have already begun the WAT! 25 Challenge, with 85% of WAT! Adult teams having a start date before today. While our focus will soon shift to the recognition of your virtual journey, there is still time to invite friends, family and colleagues who haven’t signed up yet. Kudos to all those who answered the call from last week to share our special WAT! 25 Challenge with others! It is the Walk Across Texas! community that makes this program so great and together we will be able to reach and encourage more Texans to be active.

So, as we enter the first official day of fall, and with a little over one week remaining before everyone in the WAT! 25 Challenge has officially started, we would once again like to thank you for sharing your enthusiasm for the Walk Across Texas! program.

If you use social media, and haven’t already, please follow, like, and share our Walk Across Texas! program pages:

If weekly newsletters aren’t enough, we’ll be posting daily content with lots of great tips and motivators. Also, be sure to tag us with #wat25 and #walkacrosstexas
